The renowned physicist David Bohm said, "Each person enfolds something of the spirit of the other in his consciousness." Nobel physicist Erwin Schrödinger also believed that minds are in some sense united and one. He said, "To divide or multiply consciousness is something meaningless. There is obviously only one alternative, namely the unification of minds or consciousness.... [I]n truth there is only one mind." By linking minds across space and time, premonitions reveal the oneness of which these scientists -- and many spiritual traditions -- speak. Premonitions therefore imply that we are not isolated individuals, but beings whose consciousness operates outside the present and beyond our physical body. They suggest that in some sense we are nonlocal or infinite in space in time. When we deeply sense this, we may become "transparent to the transcendent," as mythologist Joseph Campbell put it. Through love, premonitions link human beings across space and time. There is no more fundamental aspect of spirituality than love. Synchronicity is one of Spirit’s ways of communicating with us. Carl G. Jung defined synchronicity as “a meaningful coincidence.” The Swiss psychologist suggested, “Synchronicity reveals the meaningful connections between the subjective and objective world.”(1) Synchronicity is an experience of two or more occurrences that are logically meaningful to the person when it happens to them and may even seem a bit mysterious or unexplainable. It differs from coincidence which can suggest a fluke or happenstance. Synchronicity is an underlying pattern that can provide meaningful information to us. Events that occur independently from each other are acausal events. In other words, one event does not cause the other. However, while acausal events may not cause each other, they have a common cause – our intention. It is our intention that brings the events to life. It is our intention that attracts synchronicity. As inspirational speaker and author, Wayne Dyer says, “Our intention creates our reality.” Our intent draws all to us! Our intentions thread the fabric of our life; intention attracts the patches which comprise our quilts. According to Deepak Chopra in The Spontaneous Fulfillment of Desire, coincidences (synchronicities) are created by intention, and “Intent is the mechanics through which spirit transforms itself into material reality.” Whenever we set an intention with conviction and passion and feed it with energy and fervor, the Universe will give us clues to what we need through signs, such as synchronistic events so we can fulfill our intention. Several years ago I went to a conference and I was dwelling on whether or not to accept a publishing contract for my first book, Façades with a publisher under the imprint of Alice Street Editions. During a 45 minute session, the name Alice showed up three times. To me, this was a message, a sign from Spirit. It was the Universe’s way of giving me a thumbs-up to take the Alice Street Editions contract. I did. The Universe talks to us through synchronicities all the time! It is constantly giving us the answers to our questions. You may be wondering why you haven’t seen these synchronicities. Or perhaps, you’ve experienced them occasionally, but not all the time! Did you know the more attention you give to looking for these signs, the more they will show up in your life? Maybe you haven’t looked for these synchronicities before, if not try it! Consider that synchronicities are meaningful events, and refer to them as coinciding events, not coincidences. Perhaps you haven’t experienced these synchronicities because you’re stressed. Anxiety will obstruct you from noticing synchronicity in your life. Is it possible that you’ve been overwhelmed by lower energy emotions such as anger, resentment, hatred, fear, judgment and so on? If this is the case know that the answer is to turn inward. What is synchronicity? Synchronicity is God’s way of talking to us. It’s Spirit’s way of guiding us. There are three indicators I routinely use to help determine if something is coincidental or synchronistic. They are: Meaningful. If a pattern or repetitive occurrence is meaningful to you, then chances are its synchronistic. The Universe may be hinting at an intention you have previously set. Defies Probability. If the repetitive occurrence seems to defy probability, or normal frequency of expectations, then chances are the occurrence is synchronistic. I also find the more improbable the event, the more significant the meaning. If the repetitive occurrence does not defy probability and it is therefore probable, I would consider it a coincidence. Sometimes, synchronistic events can simply reveal we’re right where we’re supposed to be in our lives. I believe the following story, “The Bible” illustrates this nicely: The Bible Terry was attending a spirituality course and a bible was a required text for the class. She brought to the class her prized St. James version which was a gift from her grandmother who had been born in 1893. This was a cherished gift she received when she was five or six. Each week in the class, the students would mix among the other students, and study different passages from the bible. During one week, Terry was working in a small group and sat beside Michelle. She noticed that Michelle had a similar bible to her own, though Michelle’s bible was in much better shape. The jacket of Terry’s book was long gone and now replaced with cardboard, its spine now broken and there were even pages missing. Terry said to Michelle, “Gosh that looks just like mine (her bible)!” “Oh, I got it as a child!” Michelle said. “That’s really cool because that’s what mine used to look like.” She patted the now cardboard jacket. Terry opened the front part of her bible and printed inside it said, “Presented to: Terry, by Grandma on December 25, 1960.” Michelle opened her book to the same page revealing, “Presented to Michelle, by Mother, on December 25, 1960.” In that moment, Michelle and Terry couldn’t fathom the coincidence that the two had the same bible gifted to them by a cherished family member on the same date, nearly fifty years earlier. It seemed improbable. The two women stood, eyes welling with tears, perhaps remembering their loved ones as they fell into each other’s arms. Later, Terry shared with me that the synchronicity of the event indicated to her she was in the right place at that moment in her life. Gut or Intuition. The third thing which reveals whether or not an event is a coincidence or synchronistic, is to pay attention to your gut feelings or your intuition. When we are attempting to determine if a synchronistic event is meaningful, or if it defies probability, we may be using analytical reasoning or left-brain processing. Whereas, if we tune into our gut feelings or our intuition to determine if a synchronistic event is meaningful, we are tapping the right brain process or the divine feminine. When a coinciding event comes up in your life, turn inward and ask your higher self if it is meaningful. Pay attention to those gut feelings, your inner voice, and your intuition. When synchronistic events pop up in your life, know that it is one of Spirit’s ways to get your attention and give you answers. Go within and listen to Spirit. It aims to allow participants to examine their preconceptions, prejudices and patterns of thought. Bohm dialogue was developed by David Bohm, Donald Factor and Peter Garrett. Bohm Dialogue (often referred to simply as Dialogue by its proponents) is conducted in groups of 10 to 40 people, who sit in a single circle, for a few hours during regular meetings or for a few days in a workshop environment. Participants "suspend" their thoughts, motives, impulses and judgements – exploring and attempting to "think together" collectively. Dialogue should not be confused with discussion, lecture, discourse or debate, which, says Bohm, all suggest working towards a goal rather than simply exploring. Meeting without an objective or agenda is done to create a "free space" for something new to happen. David Bohm : Dialogue is really aimed at going into the whole thought process and changing the way the thought process occurs collectively. We haven't really paid much attention to thought as a process. We have ENGAGED in thoughts, put we have only paid attention to the content, not to the process. Why does thought require attention. Everything requires attention, really. If we ran machines withinout paying attention to them, they would break down. Our thought, too, is a process, and it requires attention, otherwise its going to go wrong . In such a dialogue, when one person says something, the other person does not, in general, respond with exactly the same meaning as that seen by the first person. Rather, the meanings are only SIMILAR and not identical. Thus , when the 2nd person replies, the 1st person sees a DIFFERENCE between what he meant to say and what the other person understood. On considering this difference, he may then be able to see something new, which is relevant both to his own views and to those of the other person. And so it can go back and forth, with the continual emergence of a new content that is common to both participants. Thus, in a dialogue, each person does not attempt to MAKE COMMON certain ideas or items of information that are already know to him. Rather, it may be said that two people are making something IN COMMON, i.e., creating something new together. (from On Dialogue) This group is for members to exchange experiences they have had with authentic connection or communion with others, through deep meaningful dialogue on this site using Video Dialogue area. </article> <article> <h1>Mystical & Peak Experiences</h1> <p>Sun, 23 Aug 2009 04:52:51 GMT</p> Feelings of limitless horizons opening up to the vision, the feeling of being simultaneously more powerful and also more helpless than one ever was before, the feeling of ecstasy and wonder and awe, the loss of placement in time and space with, finally, the conviction that something extremely important and valuable had happened, so that the subject was to some extent transformed and strengthened even in his daily life by such experiences. -Abraham Maslow Maslow, the term's inventor, says that "peak experiences" are sudden feelings of intense happiness and well-being, possibly the awareness of an "ultimate truth" and the unity of all things ... the experience fills the individual with wonder and awe....he feels at one with the world, and is pleased with it ...." They are moments when you feel more at one with yourself and the world, more integrated. You feel happy, even ecstatic, interconnected and in harmony. Peak experiences are one type of mystical experiences, and perhaps one of the most interesting in that Maslow aims to talk about mystical experiences in non-supernatural terms. Maslow thinks that peak experiences are a good thing. He says they are "rare, mystical, exciting, deeply moving, and exhilarating". He also thinks that when you have a peak experience in this moments you become like a self-actualiser. "Any person in any of the peak experiences takes on temporarily many of the characteristics which I found in self-actualizing individuals. There may also be longer-lasting effects. Peak experiences can also make you more creative and less neurotic. "The peak-experiencer becomes more loving and more accepting, and so he becomes more spontaneous and honest and innocent" A peak experience is also " visit to a personally defined heaven from which the person then returns to earth. This is like giving a naturalistic meaning to the concept of heaven." Colin Wilson agrees. "Human beings do not realise the extent to which their own sense of defeat prevents them from doing things they could do perfectly well. The peak experience induces the recognition that your own powers are far greater than you imagined them." He is perhaps best known for his work as a theoretical physicist; however, his interests in the areas of communication and dialogue date back to the 1950s. Bohm describes the process of dialogue as a communication system that has the potential for bringing about a new world view. Because Bohm sees dialogue as a vehicle for bringing about world peace, his views perhaps represent the purest form of dialogue possible. In order to participate in dialogue, one must first understand what dialogue is according to Bohm. Dialogue "comes from the Greek word dialogos. Logos means 'the word' or in our case we would think of the 'meaning of the word.' And dia means 'through'--it doesn't mean two" (Bohm, 1990, p. 1). Bohm points out that dialogue suggests a "stream of meaning" flowing among, through and between us. This makes it possible to create a flow of meaning in the entire group so that some new understanding will emerge. This in turn will create a "shared meaning" in the group that serves as the glue or cement that will hold the group (and society) together. Bohm goes on to point out that the cohesiveness of the group allows the participants to become coherent at the "tacit level." This unspoken level of communication that develops slowly in a dialogue group has the potential for holding tremendous power that can fuel grassroots changes in a society. In order for dialogue to take place, three conditions must be met. First, participants must suspend assumptions. Bohm says that discussions and negotiations are not dialogue, because each represents a process whereby someone tries to "win" or convince others to assume the views of another. In dialogue, there is no attempt to gain points or prevail, and nobody tries to "win." The primary objective of dialogue is to suspend your opinions and look at the opinions of others. All participants must learn to listen to what is on someone's mind and suspend judgement without coming to a conclusion. Dialogue requires an "empty place" to give all participants the necessary space to talk. Second, all participants must regard one another as colleagues. While authority and hierarchy permeate our societies, dialogue can only take place when we can suspend those notions of authority. Since we must have an empty space in dialogue with no set agenda or program, it will be much easier to treat all participants as colleagues in a real dialogue setting. Third, there must be a "facilitator" who holds the context of dialogue. While we want to all be colleagues, those entering a dialogue experience for the first time will need someone experienced in dialogue to facilitate the conversations. Opinions will be expressed that will likely differ from those of many participants in the group; however, all participants must refrain from entering into discussions that attempt to break down the opinions of those different from the participants. The facilitator experienced in dialogue can play a key role in creating an environment that allows participants to speak frankly about the values and opinions they hold. Furthermore, the facilitator will initially have to work to keep the space empty for open communication to take place and for participants to simply listen rather than voicing their own judgements. As human beings we have spent a great deal of our lives holding on to our assumptions about life. We seem to have a strong need to defend our assumptions; giving in to it will prevent dialogue. The facilitator makes certain that each person has the needed space to talk openly. Finally, Bohm points out that a reason for dialogue must exist in order for participants to engage in dialogue. This reason, whatever it may be, will get the participants through the frustrations of dialogue, because the very process Bohm speaks of really goes against the norms of most societies.
